About Take the Space

Hi, I'm Jenny

Take the Space Founder

After 28-years of working in the arts and heritage sector I decided it was time to share some of my knowledge around inclusive and anti-racist strategies with the wider sector.

Take the Space Training is your industry resource - I want to share with you practical tools as to how to implement this work, tap into case studies and resources, and keep inspiring our work to move us forward.

Hope you join me on a workshop or webinar.

Why choose Take the Space?

Take The Space is a creative diversity agency, bringing together policy, production and practice to co-create inclusive spaces with artists, organisations and communities.

TTS supports arts and heritage organisations to move from policy to practice – to develop diversity strategies that create inclusive spaces.  TTS enables artists from Black and British multi-ethnic backgrounds to tell their stories and take their space.  And TTS makes the space for conversations around diversity and inclusivity – however challenging – between artists, organisations, communities and ourselves.

Take the Space was founded in 2006 by Jenny Williams, an experienced leader in diversity and inclusion

Take the Space is led by senior cultural leader, Jenny Williams who brings lived experience as well as sector experience to anti-racism and inclusion work. Jenny has over 28 years of experience in the arts and heritage sector, a track record as a leader on diversity and inclusion, and is one of the few Black producers working across arts and heritage in the UK.  In 2020 Jenny was awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Year’s Honours list for her work with Revoluton Arts, the Creative People and Places programme in Luton, during the COVID-19 pandemic.  As a Fellow on the Clore Leadership Programme (2007-9), she was mentored by acclaimed playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah.

Before Take the Space, Jenny held numerous senior positions within the arts and public sectors including Head of Diversity, Arts Council England, National Office; Cultural Diversity Officer, Arts Council England South East; Education and Community Director The Tricycle; and Arts Development lead for Mid Sussex District and Wandsworth Borough Councils; her first job in the arts as Fundraising Officer for English Touring Opera.

She is an accredited coach; and an AIM Museums Enabler (2017-18).  Currently Jenny is a Trustee of Towner Eastbourne; and Community Member for the South Downs National Park Partnership.
